Why not make this summer’s vacation a trip to Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is one of the best vacation spots imaginable for families with small children and teens. Costa Rica has everything that you could want in a trip: adventure, discovery, rivers, waterfalls, beaches, and cloud forests to explore--it's truly an unforgettable experience!
Costa Rica offers plenty of opportunities for bonding time as well; there are so many moments where everyone can find something they enjoy—whether it be exploring nature or learning about sustainability together.
Not only will your kiddos have fun on their Latin American adventure but they'll also get to learn a little bit of Spanish too. Just by learning how to ask for and say the basics, they’ll be off to a good start: Basic phrases such as please (por favor), thank you (gracias), where is the restroom (donde esta el sevicio?), is there a WiFi hotspot (hay internet?), I’d like (me gustaria), excuse me (disculpe), I have a question (una pregunta …), hello (hola), goodbye (adios) and more will get them learning and loving the Spanish language.
Traveling to Costa Rica will teach your kids to have an open mind and be accepting of new cultures. It’s important that children are exposed to the world beyond their own backyard; expanding your child's horizons can help them learn about patience, expectation, culture subtleties, and so much more!
There is plenty of fun for everybody in Costa Rica
With so much to do and see, you’ll never hear that dreaded lament, “I’m bored!” Costa Rica has so much to offer, you’ll wonder how it was that your summer vacation went by so fast.
Here are a few things we suggest you and the kids enjoy:
Hiking through nature with the entire family.
The Costa Rican rainforest is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, and a great place to spend quality time with your family. Hiking through its trails will you guys up close and personal with monkeys, sloths, toucans - all animals that are fun to see in nature!
After a short, fun, and interesting trek, you’ll hike along the river trails and bridges to the waterfalls. There are four different swimming holes with fresh mountain spring waters. Submerge yourself under one of our many falls for an invigorating massage, or for those daring enough, there are also places where you can jump into pools from heights as high as 25 feet!
Surfing and stand-up paddle boarding.
For families with kids, Costa Rica offers a great opportunity to learn something new and have an exciting adventure while they're at it. Stand-up paddle boarding and surfing are two of the most thrilling adventures in Costa Rica - there are plenty of great spots for those who already know how to surf and for more advanced stand-up paddlers alike- but also, there are gentle waves and smooth waters for beginners.
Never surfed before? Surf lessons and stand-up paddle boarding lessons can be a fun and bonding experience for all in the family.
A day of fun at Tortuga Island
Tortuga Island is a jewel of Costa Rica. The island, also known as Isla Tortuga, one of the two islands that make up the Biological Reserve off of Nicoya Peninsula in North Puntarenas Province.
Although overnight stays are not routinely done on this beautiful little gem, day tours provide visitors with an opportunity to experience its magic.
Take a catamaran from Los Sueños Marina and sail off to the beautiful Tortuga Island, known for its pristine white sandy beaches and tranquil crystal blue waters.
The island is a perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking or beach sports; or you can just sit back and relax on the shore with your favorite drink in hand thanks to unlimited rum punch or piña coladas!
Eco-trail hikes are fun on the island, as there is snorkel gear available if you want to swim the colorful coral reefs that are home to tropical fish of all kinds.
Beach volleyball and other activities such as banana boat rides or kayaking are available too!
The trip usually includes light breakfast aboard the boat along with lunch.
On your way to and from the island expect to be delighted by the sight of dolphins, sea turtles, and more!
Choose to charter a boat and have a private tour and day on Tortuga or join others on one of the daily excursions that go over to the island.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country with plenty of water activities. If you're looking for an adventure, try white-water rafting on the Pacuare or Naranjo Rivers! You'll be able to experience incredible scenery and wildlife as well as have fun riding the exhilarating rapids.
Some may think that the rafting in Costa Rica is a bit too mellow and not exciting enough, but this couldn't be further from the truth. There are many rapids on these rivers which provide for some really fun adrenaline-filled rides!
Other great things about river rafting here include being able to enjoy nature with rainforest views all around you; seeing different species of colorful birds as well as sloths hanging out high in trees and even monkeys leaping through branches overhead.
The Crocodile Tour is fun for the entire family.
The Crocodile Tour will take you upstream to see crocodiles in the wild, as well as birds and other animals too. Just 20 minutes from Los Sueños Resort, you’ll board the boat and head upriver. Your tour guide will point out all of the amazing creatures along the way.
He may even get off the boat and feed the crocodiles, which is really thrilling because he is only steps away from the awe-inspiring beasts.
As an added bonus, more than 50 bird species are readily available for sightseeing. You may see Costa Rica’s iconic scarlet macaw or migrant waterfowl which can be spotted mainly during migratory seasons.

The Manuel Antonio National Park is Costa Rica’s most popular, and famous, national park. It has 3 square miles of diverse plants, birds, and animals! The trails lead to the beaches with crystal clear, smooth waters for swimming; perfect for everyone in your family.
