Travel has been off our radar for a while, but Costa Rica is waiting with open arms
As we move into our second year of travel restrictions and social distancing safety measures, things are looking up and Costa Rica is happily welcoming visitors.
One of the safest places to be in the world right now, Costa Rica has done a magnificent job of educating the public about staying safe during the pandemic and keeping our visitors safe.
While there are a few things to keep in mind for your travel to Costa Rica, and then back home again, this Costa Rica vacation is absolutely doable and the adventure, discovery, and fun are just waiting for you to show up.
What you'll need to enter Costa Rica in early 2021
Costa Rica is one of the most welcoming destinations in the world right now.
While there were some travel restrictions in place last year, as of October 26, 2020, Costa Rica no longer requires a negative COVID-19 test result for tourist entry.
You also need not worry about having to quarantine upon arrival in Costa Rica- you’re free to head for your vacation destination within the country and enjoy.
Likewise, there are no vaccination requirements for entry.
Costa Rica does want to make sure that we can take care of you, however, should you happen to get sick during your time here.
Therefore, you will need to provide proof of insurance that pays for any coronavirus-related treatment you might need if you do contract COVID and become ill in Costa Rica. Your coverage benefits will also include a provision to cover the cost of quarantine lodging while you're in Costa Rica in case that becomes necessary.
The insurance you get is easily obtained online and you’ll be provided with a certification that shows you have the following coverage:

The effective dates of your policy

Guaranteed coverage minimum of $50,000 for any COVID-related illness while in Costa Rica

A minimum of $2,000 to cover lodging expenses for COVID-related accommodation
You can buy your policy in the States or in Costa Rica through one of two government-approved insurance providers: National Insurance Institute or Sagicor and can expect to pay around $200 for it.
The Costa Rican border control agents will limit your stay to your policy's effective dates. You won't be able to extend your vacation without leaving the country.
You'll also need a HEALTH PASS, an online form that's required and available 48 hours before your U.S. departure. Fill out the form carefully, and don't leave blank spaces. Do include your proof of insurance information on the form.

Traveling back home to the U.S. has new requirements too
The U.S. government and the Centers for Disease Control now require all passengers entering the U.S. to show proof of a negative COVID test result within 72 hours of flying and landing in the States.
Los Sueños has partnered with Hospital Metropolitano to make it easy and convenient to meet the COVID testing requirements for re-entry into the U.S.
The COVID testing center is at the Herradura Clinic just inside the resort's main gates. The cost for a test is about $135 per person.
The Clinical Laboratory at Jacó Walk also offers COVID-19 testing.
Wait time for results could be up to 48 hours, so do plan ahead to get tested on time. Schedule your test 72 hours before your flight home and you should be just fine.
Your airline must confirm a negative test result or proof of recovery for passengers 2 years and older before you can board. If you don't have documentation, your airline is required to deny boarding.
Contact your air carrier to find out if it has any other COVID-related requirements. Just like when you flew down to Costa Rica, your airline will require you to wear a mask during your flight.

Los Sueños is committed to providing a safe environment for our guests. You may have a temperature check if you enter into any restaurants or shops in the resort, or at the gates of individual communities.
No-touch sanitizing dispensers and shoe cleaning areas have also been installed at several locations around the resort and in Marina Village.
You'll also be required to wear a face mask while you are in the resort's public areas. Masks should cover your nose and mouth- this is standard for any public space in the country, including public transportation.
The resort's restaurants have occupancy limits that inevitably reduce the seating capacity- be sure to make a reservation before you go! The local and national governments have set these restrictions for everyone's benefit.
You may be able to take advantage of QR codes to order at restaurants- many have implemented this convenient safety measure. As always, you can also opt for a delivery service from any of the resort’s wonderful restaurants.
Our outdoor spaces will look a bit different too, these days. The pool furniture and other outdoor seating have been rearranged to provide more distance.
Similarly, businesses in the Marina Village may limit the number of people allowed inside the business at any one time. Please allow extra time in case you have to wait. Alternatively, you can arrange delivery of groceries and other items to your Los Sueños accommodation.
