After somewhat lackluster sailfish numbers in January’s Leg I of the 2018 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown, the action improved dramatically for Leg II. Sailfish totals (1,111) nearly tripled over January’s Leg I numbers (457) but were still short of 2017’s 1,592 sails. Marlin were in short supply for this leg of the series compared to January, only 32 compared to 141 last month, but well within reach of last year’s 43.
On Location came out on top to win the second leg of the series with 33 sailfish and 4 marlin, for a total of 5,300 points. Finishing in second place on Days 1 and 2 with 2,200 and 1,500 points, respectively, On Location hooked 2 marlin on Day 3 to take the lead and seal the win.
Uno Más netted a total of 4,800 points with 28 sailfish and 4 marlin for second place in Leg II, up from third place on Days 1 and 2 (2,100 and 1,300 points, respectively).
Tarheel’s 42 sails and 1 marlin totaled 4,700 points for third place on the leg. Finishing in seventh place on Day 1 (1,500 points), Team Tarheel jumped to first place on Day 2 with 2,500 points.
Current overall series standings keep On Location in the lead for overall champ with 9,600 points (33 sail, 4 marlin). Tarheel has 8,000 points (42, 1) for second place and Agitator—2017 champion—is in third with 7,700 points (38, 1). Still in the running: Uno Más and Alpha Bravo (6,900 points each), Blue Eagle (on Hooker) with 6,400 points, and Dealers Choice and Geaux Fly with 6,300 points each.
