March 2021 Fishing Report

 

The 2021 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown has wrapped up as spectacularly as usual, with Leg III having just completed on Saturday the 20th of March, 2021. 

Considering the restrictions we’ve experienced due to COVID-19, some may have wondered if the annual Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown Billfish Tournament would take place, as usual, in 2021. 

Indeed, it did and the show was as exciting and fun as ever, despite the pandemic putting a bit of a damper on most events around the world in the last year.

The Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown is a sportfishing tournament that has taken place annually for nearly 20 years and has grown in popularity since the very first one. From 2004 to today, this billfish tournament has become one of the most highly competitive bill fishing tournaments in the world, attracting angler teams from everywhere. 

Los Sueños’ sportfishing is exceptional, given the gorgeous Costa Rican weather and the smooth, calm Central Pacific waters off of the Costa Rica coast in Central America. 

When you get those kinds of sport fishing conditions along with the luxury of the Los Sueños Resort and Marina,  there comes together with a phenomenal experience that goes far past that of sportfishing tournaments anywhere else in the world. 

Attracting sport fishing angler teams from all over the globe, this year’s Signature Triple Crown event hosted 38 teams, each participating in a grand contest to win prizes totaling well over $100,000.

Winning Teams of Leg III of the 2021 Signature Triple Crown: 

  • Congratulations go out to Team TEAM GALATI for taking First Place on the 2021 Signature Triple Crown LEG 3 • With 6400 pts - TEAM GALATI took home a prize of $68,000

  • Congratulations go out to Team EIGHT EIGHTS for taking Second Place on the 2021 Signature Triple Crown LEG 3 • With 5000 pts   EIGHT EIGHTS  

  • Congratulations go out to DRAGIN FLY Team for Third Place on the 2021 Signature Triple Crown LEG 3 • With 4800 pts  Team DRAGIN FLY took home $27,200

 

So, how did the tournament break down day by day?

Day One: Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown Bilfish Series

 

  • The first place on Day 1 of the  LEG III • 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for TEAM GALATI  with 2400 pts, releasing 24 sails.

  • The second place on Day 1 of the  LEG III • 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for PURA VIDA with 2100 pts, releasing 6 sails and 3 marlin.

  • The third place on Day 1 of the LEG III • 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for DEALERS CHOICE  with 1900 pts, releasing 9 sails and 2 marlin.

Day Two: Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown Bilfish Series

  • The first place on Day 2 of the  LEG III • 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for Team EIGHT EIGHTS  with 2100 pts, releasing 11 sails and 2 marlin.

  • The second place on Day 2 of the  LEG III • 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for TEAM GALATI  with 2100 pts, releasing 21 sails.

  • The third place on Day 2 of the LEG III • 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for REEL JOY with 2000 pts, releasing 15 sails and 1 marlin.

 

Day Three: Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown Billfish Series

  • Congratulations TEAM GALATI Team for first place on Day 3 of the 2021 Signature Triple Crown, with 6100 pts - releasing 6 Sailfish and 4 Marlin.

  • The second place on Day 3 of the 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for EIGHT EIGHTS with 5000 pts, releasing 3 sails and 4 Marlin.

  • The third place on Day 3 of the 2021 Signature Triple Crown was for TARHEEL with 4700 pts, releasing 13 sails and 1 marlin.

 

The third Annual Ladies Only Fishing Tournament took place this last week, as well.

March 16, 2021, marked the third leg of the 3rd annual Ladies Only Tournament, a one-day event, designed to showcase competitive, non-professional, female anglers. 

Held the Tuesday before each leg of the Signature Triple Crown, this event has become hugely popular in the last few years. 

Competing for cash prizes totaling over $36,000, these women and skilled anglers and every bit as competitive as the anglers who enter into the main event, the Signature Triple Crown. 

  • First Place for D.A. SEA - 5400 pts

  • Second Place for UNO MAS - 4600 pts

  • Third Place for MAX BET - 4400 pts

 

Award Ceremonies for2021 Signature Triple Crown - not your normal fanfare, but all were OK with that. 

Awards were presented to the winning teams on Sunday, March 20, 2021, on their boats rather than in the usual fanfare event. 

Due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols, events such as the formal awards banquet and ceremony - usually held at the Los Sueños Resort & Marina Beach Club- were, sadly, canceled. Still, a few happy teams walked away with some big cash prized, plenty of patience and camaraderie for getting through all this together, and looking forward to next year and the Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series 2022.
