You are here

The Poás Volcano is among the most visited national parks in Costa Rica and a powerful symbol of the geothermal forces that formed our Country. The crater is 2,704 meters high, 1,050 feet (320 meters) deep. At almost a mile (1.6 km) across it's also the largest active crater in the world, with a sulfuric, bubbling green rain fed lake at the bottom. The second crater, Laguna Botos, is a lake surrounded by a dense cloud forest. Here you will find a variety of hummingbird species and various types of exotic birds. An extensive trail system offers amazing views of the surrounding Central Valley.
