6 Reasons to Get Married in Los Sueños Resort Costa Rica

Bride Costa Rica Beach

Getting Married in Costa Rica saves money, creates memories, and delivers so much more than traditional nuptials on the home-front.

Getting married? There is a bountiful list of reasons why a destination wedding in Costa Rica is a great way to go. From surrounding your nuptials in nature, to spending extra quality time with your nearest and dearest, getting married in Los Sueños Resort is full of blissful, nuptial sweeteners. Here are the top 6 reasons we believe your destination wedding at Los Sueños will be the wedding of your dreams:

Less formality, more fun

According to a recent report from Mintel U.S. weddings, nearly 60% percent of couples want to create a fun, relaxing, memorable party, rather than a stuffy, traditional, formal kind of event. “Destination weddings are especially accommodating for couples steering away from the traditional black-tie wedding,” says Susie Papadin of Alison Events. “The majority take place in leisure locations, which are far more conducive to a casual feel.” A Costa Rica destination wedding at Los Sueños Resort provides all the luxury a couple would want for their special day, while at the same time delivering spectacularly on nature, fun, discovery, and adventure.

Shorter guest lists, as well as spared feelings

Most traditional guest lists weigh in at just under 150 invites (that’s a lot of cake!), while destination weddings average just under 50. Moving your wedding venue to Costa Rica means you can send announcements, rather than invitations, with no concern for hurt feelings. Distant relatives, causal acquaintances, and business associates won’t expect to be invited (and may even be relieved!), thus saving you a bundle on food, beverages, party favors, and venue, and also allowing you a more intimate setting for that most important day.

Location, Location, Location: It’s a non-issue

What to do when one half of the happy couple is from Dallas, and the other from Brazil, but both live, work, and socialize in Los Angeles? Families and friends will feel happier to meet in the middle than to travel to the home town of one or the other; and, since all will be traveling to that tropical paradise that is Costa Rica, your event will be as fun and exciting for your guests as it is for you.

Blissful not stressful

When your wedding is a vacation in and of itself, the stress level goes down by droves. Destination weddings, by nature, almost compel couples to let go and let the experts handle it all, but also the relaxed, tropical ambience of a rainforest resort like Los Sueños really gets the wedding party in a laid-back mood from day one. One Los Sueños Resort area wedding planner we spoke with said, “We’re kind of a one stop shop; instead of the wedding couple having to speak to florists, musicians, wedding officiants, and caterers, we take care of everything.” As a result, the couple can sit back, relax, get married, and work on nothing more stressful than their tan.

Quality over quantity

Weddings can be exhausting for the happy couple, and often, they are so wiped out at the end of the day that they barely remember having any fun or connecting with their guests. Weddings at Los Sueños, especially when everyone is staying at the resort, provide for plenty of bonding time, and memory making, within the entire wedding party. In one Mintel U.S. weddings report, experts said, “One reason destination weddings are popular is because they allow the bride and groom more opportunity to truly interact with their guests over a longer event.”

Destination weddings at Los Sueños Resort save money

On average, couples save nearly $2,500 when they get married away, rather than on the home-front. Even better, June (traditional wedding month) is green season in Costa Rica. Everything is more lush and beautiful and everything is also less expensive.   With so many reasons to plan your wedding away from home, who wouldn’t want to plan a destination wedding at Los Sueños Resort, Costa Rica? For more information about having your beautiful wedding at Los Sueños, reach out to HRG’s event experts today. Regardless of whether its last minute (just the two of you), or a year away with the whole gang, we can help you have the wedding and vacation of your dreams.

Costa Rica Vacation Tips

7 Reasons Why You Might Not Have a Perfect Costa Rica Vacation

And How to Fix That

Costa Rica Natural Diversity CollageCosta Rica is a vibrant, warm, and exciting place to visit. However, sometimes people come to Costa Rica and have a less-than-stellar trip.  If this has happened to you, there is good news. You don’t have to give up on Costa Rica.

Here are 7 common reasons why people don’t get the most out of their vacations, and advice on how to have an amazing trip the next time around.

Lack of research.

To ensure that you have the trip you want, you’re best off looking into everything beforehand. Think about where you want to stay, what you want to see, and what activities are available, so that you can build a picture in your mind of what your ideal trip would look like.
Poor planning.

There are a ton of things to do and see in Costa Rica. If you don’t plan out your trip carefully, you might end up either trying to do too much, or not doing much of anything because you’re not sure what to do. You don’t have to micromanage everything – just figure out the things you most want to do, and create a priority list. Schedule the highest priority things in first, then add in the rest of the less-important things around them.
Omitting details.

Maybe you planned to go zip-lining with the family, but realized when you got there that your children had to be at least 10. Or maybe you booked a hotel on the beach only to realize that the water there was too choppy for swimming. Finding out small, but important details about the location you’ll be staying and the activities you’ll be doing will help you avoid frustrating surprises.
Poor time management.

When you create your priority list, don’t forget to balance each activity against the amount of time you have. Find out how long each activity will last, factoring in travel time between activities, to make sure you’re not going to be rushing anywhere. And make sure to fit in some downtime so you don’t overdo it and end up exhausted.

Budgeting unwisely.

Find out what everything will cost you beforehand. Don’t forget to include tips, deposits, and pocket money. Then add a generous cushion for the unforeseen.

Packing the wrong items.

The last thing you want is to try to trek through the rainforest in the wrong shoes, be at the top of a chilly mountain with no sweater, or miss a scarlet macaw sighting because you forgot your binoculars. Pack thoughtfully and carefully for your trip.

Coming at the wrong time of year.

Costa Rica may be warm all year, but that doesn’t mean the weather is the same year round. Some activities and locations are only accessible at specific times of year. If you plan to lie on the beach for most of your trip, come during the dry season However, if you’re looking to go whitewater rafting, the wet season is your best bet.

That being said, Herradura Bay where Los Sueños Resort and Maria is located is easily accessible and the weather is fine year around, even if it is green season and a little rainy during part of the day. Many find that green season is actually the very best time of year to visit as everything is so lush and green.

Moving to Costa Rica

Costa Rica can be an Awesome Move

Moving abroadCosta Rica is a tropical paradise, and moving there to work or retire is a dream come true for many.

As far as the nuts and bolts of relocation go, moving to another country is in a category all by itself. While it’s exciting to start a new life somewhere completely new, there are a lot of moving parts to keep track of. There’s also a lot to get used to in your new environment. If you’re considering making the big move, or if you’re already in the process, here are some things to consider, and some helpful tips to make the process smoother.

Secure employment.

If you’re in a position where you don’t have to do this right away, fantastic. However at some point, unless you’re retired or you’re moving due to a job transfer, you’re going to have to figure out your employment situation. You can’t legally work in many places in Costa Rica until you become a permanent resident, which takes two years. But you can start your own business, and doing so is very easy.

Learn Spanish.

While many people in Costa Rica speak English and there is a large population of ex-pats, Spanish is still far and away the predominate language. Learning Spanish will help you navigate much more smoothly through your day-to-day life.  You don’t have to be completely fluent right out of the gate. However, learning enough to find ingredients in a grocery store, make transactions in stores, find a restroom, ask for directions, and get help if you get lost, injured or sick will be very helpful as you start out your new life.

Do your homework.

Research the country and the culture. Learn about the currency and the exchange rate. Find out everything you can about the area you are moving to, including what types of shopping, entertainment, and amenities will be available to you.  Learn about local customs, and about any lifestyle changes you can expect. One way to do some research is to speak to someone who’s already made the move. Another is to hire a relocation service, which facilitates the moving process, and may even have cultural classes to help ease your transition.

Sell your stuff.

You make want to take small items or sentimental items with you to Costa Rica. However, it’s best to sell your furniture and other items and buy everything new once you get there. If you do decide to ship your furniture, be aware that there will be pricey shipping fees and the import tax on used goods ranges from 40 percent to 90 percent of their value.

Become a legal resident.

Securing your status as a legal resident is fairly easy, and will allow you to live in the country legally for anywhere from one to five years. There are income, employment, and other requirements to becoming a legal resident. Do your homework to ensure you’ll be in compliance with any regulations.

Costa Rica Adventure Tours

How to Make the Most out of Your Costa Rica Adventure Tour

Canopy TourThere are hundreds of exciting things to do in Costa Rica, and adventure tours are one of the best ways to experience this vibrant country. From crocodile watching, to ziplining through the jungle canopy, to white water rafting, there are tours offering the perfect activity for everyone. That said, the choices can be overwhelming, and the tours can be rugged. We’ve come up with some ways to make sure you get the most out of your tours while you’re here.

Make a Plan

Long before your feet ever touch Costa Rican soil, you should have a well thought-out adventure plan in place. First, research the types of tours available. Next, prioritize the types of tours you would most like to take. Create a loose schedule, with your highest preferences planned earliest on in your vacation, and a working budget, with the idea that you’ll spend most on the highest priority activities. This way, if time or money run out, you’ll have done what you most wanted to do. Have a plan B ready for inclement weather, or anything else that might come up.

Do Your Homework

Once you’ve sketched out a plan and decided what tours you’d like to take, it’s time to research the finer points of your choices, and fine-tune your schedule and budget accordingly. Google the different companies offering your preferred tours. Read reviews of other travelers to find out if the tour is what you envision. To avoid unpleasant surprises, find out what days and times tours operate and exactly what they cost, and research any and all refund policies, required deposits, and guest restrictions. Then, finalize your plan according to your research.

Don’t Overdo It

Costa Rican adventure tours are exhilarating, thrilling, and some of the most fun you’ll ever have. But all the excitement can be a little exhausting. Make sure to plan some downtime, whether it’s walking on the beach, relaxing at a swim-up bar, or visiting a first-class spa.

Be Prepared

The last thing you need is to show up for your adventure tour with the wrong shoes, or to get a world-class sunburn because you didn’t pack the right amount of sunscreen. Do a thorough packing job, taking care to prepare for bad weather, bugs, and sun and heat exposure. Find out what your tours encompass in terms of type of terrain to determine what footwear would be best. Costa Rica has a range of different climates depending on elevation and location, so don’t assume that shorts and a T-short will work for any adventure; light layers are always best. Also, find out what each tour will provide in terms of food and hydration, and plan accordingly.

Relax and Enjoy

With a solid plan in place and all your bases covered, you’ll be free to relax and enjoy. And, if something doesn’t go according to plan, remember to roll with the punches. You’re out for an adventure, anyways, and in Costa Rica, another great one is waiting right around the corner.

Romantic Vacation Los Sueños

Los Sueños is the Perfect Place for a Romantic Getaway

Ten Tips For A Couple’s Trip To Costa Rica

Guest Post by Jordan R.

My partner and I just got back from one of the most romantic vacations I’ve ever experienced. We love to travel to exotic tropical places and Costa Rica fits that bill to a T. We wanted a vacation that had a comfortable homey feel in an exotic location and found just what we were looking for at Los Sueños Resort and Marina.

It was such a good time that I had to share some tips for those of you who may need help surprising your significant other with a great romantic vacation:

  1. A great place to stay: Los Sueños Resort and Marina has everything you need to enjoy the perfect stay. Our luxurious 2 bedroom condo overlooked the golf course and enjoyed ocean views. We loved spending time on our private terrace and enjoying the meals we prepared in the condo’s gourmet kitchen.
  2. Candlelit Dinners: The first night in Costa Rica, I surprised my girl with a candlelit dinner at the resort’s upscale Italian restaurant next to the marina. I arranged for the resort staff to set it all up for us while we went for an evening walk along the marina. We watched the sunset in all its fiery glory and came back to our candlelit dinner surprise.
  3. Find a unique local experience: We went in search of a local hangout and found ourselves enjoying an afternoon surf tournament at the Backyard Bar and Grill in nearby Playa Hermosa. That’s one of our favorite things to do when we travel. It’s great to experience the culture of the region together.
  4. Breakfast in bed: Surprise her in the morning with breakfast in bed. The hotel provided an expensive bottle of champagne with our villa and I made mimosas. She loved it!
  5. Couples Massage: We love to get pampered and the Los Sueños Resort’s world class Sibo Spa did not disappoint. Though HRG offers a couple’s massage service that brings the massage to your villa, I wanted to make a day of it so that we could have lunch, sit in the sauna, get pedicures and have a facial. It was great.
  6. Take a Horseback Ride:  A horseback ride on the beach together was a one of my favorite parts of the trip. There’s something special about a sunset ride on the beach.
  7. Go fishing:  We spent a day on a boat out fishing and we caught Dorado for dinner! The Dorado is a fish that is better known for its name Mahi Mahi. HRG Vacations partners several captains and charter boats for first class sport fishing trips, either half day or full day. We brought the fish back to our condo and I made dinner. It was delicious.
  8. Do something adventurous: HRG Vacations provides access to an amazing rainforest canopy tour, a sky walking tour and a zip line tour. These are three unique and exciting ways that you can see the rainforest. We took the canopy tour. We rode in a basket through the treetops and saw all kinds of exotic wildlife. The colors, sights, and sounds of the rainforest are amazing!
  9. Set aside some snuggle time: We packed up a beach blanket, a couple of pillows and a basket full of goodies and wine from Jimmy T’s Provisions in the Marina Village and had a romantic afternoon on a beach called Playa Escondida (Hidden Beach).
  10. Visit the pool at night alone: This was one of our most romantic moments. The silky black star studded sky above and us surrounded by palm trees. The only light came from the lit pool. It was beautiful. We talked about our relationship and our future and came away feeling more connected than ever.

Vacation Home Los Suenos Costa Rica

I Bought a Vacation Home in Los Sueños, Costa Rica and I Love My 2nd Home!

by Michelle S.

I had been looking for a vacation home that had adventure and luxury on the water; I found those things, and so much more, when I purchased my second home in Costa Rica. Los Sueños Resort and Marina are simply amazing. This is my own little piece of paradise and I am so excited to have it. In the future I hope to retire here on Hurradurra Bay’s soft sand beaches. In the meantime, the luxury villa I purchased can be rented out, offsetting its cost. Renting it out for a week or a month at a time allows me to pay for its upkeep and use it throughout the year for myself, my parents, or close friends and family.

Los Sueños Resort offers so much to see and do. I am an avid traveler and golfer and I have yet to experience anything like the golf course here. La Iguana Golf Course is an 18 hole, 72 par, Championship golf course that was designed by Ted Robinson! Not only that, but there are 150 unique species of animals just hanging around on the course. The caddies here are trained to point them out. It’s not uncommon to see playful monkeys, scarlet macaws, colorful toucans, and even three-toed sloths. And because I own a home here, this amazing course is just a short walk from my residence. My property management team HRG Properties and Rentals even offers discount golf vacation packages that I am sure to tell all of my friends about.

Golfing isn’t the only sport here. If you’re a more adventurous person, you can take advantage of the sport fishing or surfing. My sons love the beach that is right nearby. Playa Hermosa, just down the road by about 10 minutes, is actually one of the best-known surfing beaches in Costa Rica. Eco-adventure is really big here too. Much of the wildlife and terrain are relatively untouched. It’s an amazing place to stay green and have fun and I could go on and on about the national perks here.

My new selection of fine dining establishments includes food prepared by international chefs. A few examples of the cuisine offered here are Asian, Italian, and of course Latin American. In addition to the fine dining, I love the sports bars with big screen TVs and tropical drinks set right on the bay; it just doesn’t get much better than this.

Getting here is a breeze. Los Sueños Resort and Marina is located a little over an hour from Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose’, Costa Rica. A lot of major US cities offer easy, close and inexpensive flights here including Chicago, New York, Denver, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas and Miami, just to name a few.

If you have been looking for a second home, I suggest that you consider buying a Costa Rica vacation home here at Los Sueños.
