Visit the Zapote Fair
Also located in San Jose, the Zapote is a two-week, carnival-style festival that begins on Christmas Day. Families flock to the celebration during the day, and after dark the grown-ups party the night away. The festival’s biggest event is the Tope, or horse parade, which occurs on December 26th. Thousands of riders parade through the streets, impressing crowds of viewers with their riding skills and their cowboy outfits.
Stay around for New Year’s Eve
Costa Ricans love a good celebration, and New Year’s Eve is one of the country’s biggest and most joyous. In Costa Rica, New Year’s is a family holiday, and is usually celebrated with a large dinner among family and friends. But those who enjoy a good party needn’t worry — the skies are lit up with fireworks across the country, and there are many places in the Los Sueños area where you can celebrate into the wee hours of the morning.
