Bisbee Black and Blue Tournament, Cabo San Lucas Mexico

1st place Black and Blue BisbeeOn another note, last week the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments were held in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  Despite all the problems caused by Hurricane Odine, the organization of this fishing tournament did a great job as 130 boats participated, with a  total of  908 anglers representing several countries from around the globe,  each after the same pot of gold: a big marlin and a share of more than $2.1 million in prize money.

In addition to the fun and games, Bisbee organization implemented two programs to help the community in the aftermath of Hurricane Odine:

The Bisbee’s Cabo Charter Hook

This program was designed to simultaneously help the Cabo San Lucas charter boat industry bounce back from Hurricane Odine, and offer opportunities for people to fulfill their dreams of fishing the Bisbee’s Black and Blue Tournament. This year the first 30 teams who agreed to hire a local Cabo charter crew had their $5,000 tournament entry fee paid by an anonymous benefactor.

Los Cabos Hurricane Relief Fund

The Los Cabos Hurricane Relief Fund was implemented to help support the victims of Hurricane. All funds collected through the relief fund will help support the residents and businesses of Los Cabos by providing emergency housing and emergency funds for charter boats.

This year Team Casa Hogar was the top winner. The 10 anglers and crew were fishing on behalf of the local non-profit organization that provides food, shelter and education to under-privileged Los Cabos boys. Angler Omar Castaneda scored the win after landing the biggest qualifying fish of the tournament, a 385-pound blue marlin! The team is donating the $258,325 winnings to Casa Hogar

The owner and captain Dan Lewis of Sporty Game took second place in all team awards and they received a prize of $1.682 million

Angler Dennis Bartos and Team Survivor earned a check for $42,187 for third place, their blue marlin tipping the scales at 328 pounds.

Sadly, because of Hurricane Odine, a lot of boats from Los Sueños Marina decided not to participate this year in the Black and Blue, but our friends from the Sea Angel did and they didn’t get as lucky this year as they did in 2013, but they had an amazing time and now they are ready to come back home to start getting ready for the Los Sueños Triple Crown Series tournaments.
