Eco Tourism and Costa Rica

The Perfect Vacation Destination for Your Costa Rica Eco Adventure is Los Sueños Resort & Marina

wildlife-costa-rica-sea-turtleEco-Tourism has become a popular way to travel in recent years and Costa Rica is the perfect place for your Adventure. With so many of us concerned with maintaining the earth’s resources, we are discovering many ways to do so. Some people target resorts being built on the world’s coastlines as a detriment to our environment, but this isn’t always the case. Do your research. You will find that you can still travel and keep your carbon footprint to a minimum.

Traveling is a great way to educate yourself about the health of the environment. I love traveling to see the variety of levels of development in different areas around the globe. It amazes me how society’s “advances” have actually taken us backwards.  Thankfully, in places like Costa Rica, much of the land is still largely undeveloped. There are large areas of rainforest untouched by clear-cutting and other societal “advances”.  There are also places to stay that cater to tourists who want to keep the earth green. One such place is the Los Sueños Resort and Marina.

Los Sueños Resort and Marina is a resort that has committed to the preservation of its land. The resort’s 1,100 acres of master planned land, surrounding nature, has been purposely kept underdeveloped so that the local flora and fauna can continue to thrive. Playa Herradura was awarded the Blue Flag Award for its pristine sands. This award is the biggest of several awards Los Sueños Resort has received. Only companies who keep their land and the surrounding community in an unharmed natural state receive such awards.

Doing your own research is one of the best ways that you will attain your goal of eco-friendly travel. You want to be sure that the places you give your money to are invested in water conservation, energy efficiency and recycling in order to sustain the environment around them.

In Costa Rica, more than 27% of the land has been protected to some degree from being exploited. National parks, wildlife refuges and biological reserves, both private and public make up this portion of land. You can visit these beautiful places and see them in a variety of eco-friendly ways. My personal favorite in-land eco-exploration tour was the canopy tour; a steel basket moving across a wide open canyons on a steel cable, carrying passengers who want a birds-eye view of Costa Rica’s green, mountainous terrain.

When I first heard about a canopy tour I couldn’t get the image of an engine blowing smoke into the atmosphere to power our ride across these otherwise clear, open-air spaces. What I found out when I did some research was that the rustic canopy ride is actually powered by the people riding in it. What an adrenaline rush!  Not only was I able to view those amazing green mountains from amazing heights, but I did it under my own power! Of course the other passengers helped too. It was an incredible experience.
