Costa Rica’s cities and towns come to life at night.
Costa Ricans know how to party, and dancing, dining and cocktails into the wee hours of the morning is just another part of life around here.
If you are coming to Costa Rica to blow off some steam, let loose, or learn how to salsa, there are hundreds of places to go. To help you choose, we have listed a few of our favorites.
If you’re looking for nightlife, the Los Sueños Resort is a fantastic place to stay on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast, mainly because it’s central to much of the action. The resort itself is home to the Terrace Lounge – a casual, yet upscale bar with great food, a casual atmosphere, and a terrace overlooking the Los Sueños Village. There is also the Hookup, which offers classic pub food, a classy vibe, and a 360-degree view of marina. And finally, the Los Sueños Marriott Casino offers gambling, drinks, and entertainment far into the night.
In the nearby beach town of Jaco, you will find the Monkey Bar. This dance club features an art deco, Miami vibe, plays Reggaeton and hip hop, and features VIP champagne service in in its Orchid Room. You will also find Le Loft – a luxurious and upscale Costa Rican hot spot that is popular with locals. For those looking for a more casual vibe, there is Surf Dog, which offers frozen drinks, a laid-back atmosphere, reggae music, and sports. Finally, head a little further South down the coast to check out The Backyard in Playa Hermosa for an afternoon surf contest, barbecue, and drinks on the beach every Saturday starting at 4pm.
In Quepos, Republik is the go-to hot spot. This glossy, trendy club busy features great food and drinks, a good mix of locals and tourists, and bottle service, as well as a weekly Ladies night. In Dominical, Jolly Roger is the place to be. This rustic, family-owned spot has a laid back vibe, great tequila, imported beer, and 19 flavors of chicken wings.
On Costa Rica’s Cold Coast, you will find any number of great party spots. Tamarindo in particular is famous for its great energy and nightlife. The Boogaloo Salsa Club in has a vibrant party scene, which features fantastic music, theme nights, and a cheap cover charge. The Pacifico Bar is known for its amazing parties, its dancing, and its friendly staff and owners. And El Garito is a laid-back, welcoming spot with a good mix of people, low prices, and good electro music.
The San Jose area has many, many nightlife options. Among the best are 8ctavo Rooftop, a swanky rooftop, poolside bar on the 8th floor of Sheraton hotel in Escazu, which features affordable prices, fast service, and an upscale vibe. Antik Restaurant + Bar – perhaps the coolest hotspot in town – is set in a historic house, and offers great food, fine wine, premium liquor, and panoramic views of the city from the third floor ‘balcon’. Often host to some of the best DJs in the world, Antik is the place to be if you want to dance all night long to great house music.
Avenida Escazu is where you should go for dining, movies, and a nice city walk kind of vibe. If you are simply looking for a quiet, relaxing night out with cocktails and live music, head for Jazz Café in San Pedro if you’re on the East side of town and in Escazu if you’re in the West.
