Congratulations to the 2016 Los Sueños Signature Triple Crown Series Winner
Despite the paucity of marlin in Leg III, the Los Sueños’ 2016 Signature Triple Crown Series is another one for the record books. The catch (and release) for 2016 totaled 6,500 billfish (6,547 sailfish and 23 marlin), up 838 billfish from the 2015 Series. The big money went to Agitator (24,600 points); Sea Angel (23,000) finished the tourney in second and Fish Tank was third (21,600). Jaruco, in the early running, scored the only quintuple release of the tourney on Day 3.
By the end of Leg I in January, Tranquilo stood in first place with 8100 points for 66 sails and 3 marlin. Agitator finished second with 76 sailfish for a total of 7600 points and Fish Tank edged out Sea Angel for third with 7300 points for 73 sailfish.
In February, Agitator won Leg II and took the lead for the series with the top catch of the leg (8,700 points). In a three-way tie for second place for Leg II, Pelese, Spanish Fly and Sea Angel recorded 8,600 points each and Jaruco in third with 8,300 points. Day 3 also saw Reel Joy land in the only marlin for Leg II.
As the boats headed for the fishing grounds on Day 3 of Leg III, the Leg III title was up for grabs and with it the tournament title. Series winner, Agitator, also won Leg III, followed by Pelese in second and Sea Angel in third. Agitator walks away with 50% of Leg III’s purse, some $200,000 and an additional $100,000 grand prize as Series Champion. Pelese will receive 30% of the Leg III purse and 20% goes to Sea Angel.
