Kids Are Back in School- Time for a Grown-up Getaway to Los Sueños Resort, Costa Rica

Let’s face it: Summer vacation with the kids at Los Sueños Resort can be a blast, but a grown-up getaway without them can be even more fun, not to mention relaxing.

You deserve it; it’s been a long summer, and the kids are back in school; now it’s time for mommies and daddies to get away. So call up grandma, or aunt Sue, or the nanny, and ask her to stay. You’ve earned it, you two, a long, sweet, grown-up getaway.

Here are 7 fantastically fun things to do – just the two of you.

A day out on the greens is just the ticket for some beautiful, peaceful, quiet relaxation. A little competition between the two of you is always fun, and La Iguana Golf course just fits the bill. 18 holes of championship design, the course is made extra special by the rainforest that surrounds it and you’ll find that you’re accompanied, not by noisy children, but by toucans and monkeys.

Sport Fishing

There is nothing like a day out on the water, fishing for blue marlin, that gets the adrenalin pumping, and the feeling of freedom flowing. No kids, no worries- just you, your partner, and the challenge of the big one. With the sun sparkling off the Pacific and a cold one in hand, you’ll enjoy a day of sport fishing off the shores of Costa Rica, with no worries at all other than where you’ll be having dinner that evening.

River Rafting

For a day of challenging rapids, lots of laughter, grown-up good times, and fun, river rafting in Costa is just what the doctor ordered. There are a number of class III and IV rivers near to Los Sueños Resort and, at this time of year (green season!), the rivers are high and fast, the jungle is lush and green, and the animals of the forest are out to be seen.

Casino Gaming

An evening out on the town is made extra exciting by a night at the gaming tables. With plenty of glamorous, Vegas- style casinos in the area, you’re sure to have a good time and maybe even take home enough winnings to pay for your vacation! Whether black jack is your game, or maybe roulette, you’ll find plenty of exciting fun at the casinos of Jaco Beach, and surrounding areas.

Drinking and Dining

What would a vacation be without food and beverage? The foodies among us will much appreciate the abundant choices of restaurants, lounges, cafes, and bars that are available both inside of Los Sueños Resort & Marina, and out. Whether you’re looking for Italian, Japanese, French, or fusion, the area has much to offer on the food front, and you’ll be happy to enjoy all the delectable offerings, sans kiddos.

Feel like staying in for a romantic, candlelit dinner on the balcony of your luxury vacation condo, sails bobbing on the water just below? Even better! Just give your concierge team a call at HRG, and we’ll set up catering to prepare it all for you, right in your very own kitchen.

Spa Day

There are two wonderful day spas right in the resort, and quite a few nearby. Ask your concierge to schedule your appointments, and set up transportation while they’re at it. From Sebo Spa at the Marriott, to Blush Spa & Beauty Salon you’ve got some wonderful options that are just a golf cart ride away.

Outside the resort, spa junkies might really appreciate Serenity Spa, located just up the hill at Villas Caletas.

Don’t feel like leaving your digs? Ask them to schedule a therapist to come to your vacation villa or condo; what could be better than living in your robe for the afternoon, and then hitting the sack after a wonderful massage?

Lounging by the Pool

Finally, there’s no tropical vacation complete without a day of lounging by the pool. Whether it’s the private pool at your villa, the community pool of your condo, or the exclusive Los Sueños Beach Club (my personal favorite, as it has servers to bring me drinks and delicious snacks from Al Fresco Restaurant & Bar), a day by the pool- book and umbrella drink in hand- is a perfect way to unwind.

No kids. Just the two of you. Rest, relaxation, and fun. What more could you ask for? Book your grown-up getaway today and have a long, quiet, beautiful weekend at Los Sueños Resort. After this summer of family fun; you’ve earned it.

Costa Rica’s Peaceful Paradise: A Soulful Escape

Woman on a Costa Rica beach hammock

4 Ways a peaceful Costa Rica vacation can change your perspective, lower your blood pressure, and enrich your life

Life is full of challenges, both big and small, but sometimes we can give ourselves a break. Traffic; deadlines; family illness; marital tension; parent teacher conferences; the evening news. A peaceful Costa Rica adventure could be just the ticket you need to escape the stressful realities of the daily grind.

While it’s likely that all will still be there when you return from a “relaxation vacation” in Costa Rica, your frame of mind, your perspective, and perhaps even your physical health will most definitely be in a better place.

Here are 4 ways a relaxing, adventure and discovery vacation in Costa Rica can help.

There is something truly balancing and tranquil about waking up to the sounds of nature every morning. Though I’m not sure why, Costa Rica tends to nudge me awake with the birds each morning, thus giving me time for a relaxing, peaceful, reflective morning. Add the rich aroma and taste of organically grown, Costa Rican coffee and, well…. It just doesn’t get much more sublime than that.

Long walks on the beach, and daily time spent watching the magnificent, daily, Costa Rica sunset (made all the more so with green-season cloudy skies) brings a peace to my soul that no other activity can match. Appreciating the beauty of the Pacific and the consistency of nature’s rhythms lends a deep-seated reassurance that all is fundamentally right with the world, as off balance as it all may seem sometimes when confronted with the daily news and social media.

Sometimes a little bit of pampering is all that is needed to make me feel special. While luxury living and spa days may not be the norm in my default world, I get to take extra care with myself while on vacation in Costa Rica. Ordering in, or dining out, brings sumptuous delights to my palate and healthful nutrition to my body. Body scrubs, detoxifying wraps, and long, deep massage therapy (either at one of the two world-class day spas inside Los Sueños Resort, or the privacy of my vacation condo) takes relaxation and self-care to a whole new level.

Getting out of my head, and into nature, brings my awareness back to earth and lets me re-discover who I am.  The thrill, adrenalin rush, and empowerment of climbing to a tree-top platform and zip-lining through the rainforest canopy is nothing short of therapeutic for the mind, body, and soul. The realization of the perfection that is Mother Earth when I catch sight of monkeys, sloths, toucans, red-lapas, rare orchids, and colorful butterflies is humbling and awe-inspiring.  The Japanese practice of “shinren- yoku”, or “forest bathing,” has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and fortify the immune system; my own experience of hiking through the rainforests of Costa Rica have proven that to be true for me.

Costa Rica has often been called the “happiest place on earth.” It’s easy to see why. In addition to the culture-vibe that is pura vida (pure life), there is also no military (abolished in 1948), and the country is rich with bio-diversity and nature.  Why not escape to Costa Rica for a much needed relaxation vacation; rejuvenate, and get a little bit of that happy for yourself?

Superbowl Sunday, a Golf Tournament by night, and Los Sueños Costa Rica

Golf Ball near hole Los Sueños Resort Costa Rica

A Golf Tournament by Night + Superbowl Sunday in Los Sueños, Costa Rica; it just doesn’t get much better then this!

A golf trip in Costa Rica can provide everything you need to get away from it all – a few nights far from home, a relaxing, leisurely game where you and your buddies can catch up and unwind, and definitely a day of sport fishing. Top all that off with great food and wonderful amenities, and you’ve got yourself a golf trip to remember. Imagine, though, combining all that with the Superbowl this February 4, 2017. That’s right, you can enjoy Superbowl LI 2017 via the big screen from the comfort of your luxury vacation villa or condo in Los Sueños Resort, right after a long day of superb golfing. Of course, we don’t know who’s going to the bowl yet, but they’ll be playing in Texas, and you can watch them from Costa Rica.   The 15th edition of the La Iguana Invitational is open, by invitation only, to La Iguana Golf Course Los Sueños Marriott Members, residents and owners in Los Sueños Resort, boat owners with slips in the marina, and professional golfers from around the country. The tournament will be held on Superbowl Sunday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00am and going on through the night. A different experience, you will be golfing with neon balls at night. For more information about joining the tournament, you can contact the La Iguana Golf Course directly.   Los Sueños Resort is the perfect place for a golf trip. Not only does the Los Sueños Resort offer beautiful vacation condos and villas with fantastic amenities, it also has a first-class golf course that makes for a worthy game. The La Iguana Golf Course is a naturally challenging, 18-hole championship golf course designed by Ted Robinson. And, as if that were not enough, the course is set in paradise. La Iguana backs up to the rainforest, and also features spectacular ocean views. So what does a jungle golf course mean for your golfing experience? It means that the rainforest is part of the course itself. This is not a walk on a hilly barren green – this is an exotic place, with brightly colored flowers and lush green tropical plants. This is a place where a monkey just might steal your golf ball, and you may see a macaw peering down at you from a banana tree as you tee up for a hole. A place where you can experience the rainforest as you play against a seaside backdrop. The La Iguana course is deceptively challenging. Fortunately, there are PGA-qualified golf professionals on hand to help you, and you’ll have access to state-of-the-art golfing equipment and a huge putting green and driving range. And what is a golf game without a solid challenge, anyway? HRG Vacations offers great golfing packages, which include a stay in a luxury condo, unlimited golfing for two days, and airport transfers. The rates are reasonable, and the golfing is great year around, so of course you can come any time, but we do recommend making a Superbowl weekend out of it. For those times when you’re not on the course, there is plenty to do. Whether you want to hit the spa for a deep tissue massage or head out for a zip lining adventure, an ATV trek through the mountainside, or try your hand on a sport fishing trip, you can do it all in or near Los Sueños Resort and Marina. If you get hungry after a long day of golfing, Los Sueños offers 12 restaurants, all of which will cater to your door should you feel like staying in. There are also lots of great restaurants nearby where you can get some great local cuisine. And if you’re looking for something to after-hours, the breezy beach town of Jaco – known for its great night life — is just a few minutes away. Why not plan a long weekend at Los Sueños Resort and join in the golf tournament to boot? Call today to make your reservations; it could be the best boy’s weekend away you’ve had in a while.

Costa Rica Family Thankgiving

Thanksgiving in Costa Rica is Always Extra Special for Our Family

By Lynette Garet

costarica-villafirenze-03Thanksgiving in Costa Rica is the one time of year that my entire family is able to get together. With one of my kids away at college in the States, another away living and working in Mexico, I have just two still here, near me, in Costa Rica; everyone has super busy lives so it is always a challenge to get some family time in.

My family and I moved from the United States to Costa Rica in 1996. I can honestly say the move was the most positive decision I ever made for us. Having grown up here, my children are all fully bilingual and sort of think of the entire world as their own backyard.

Since Thanksgiving a special time for us, we always try to do something special.  My two kids that are away in the U.S. fly in and the entire family heads for the beach for the long 4-day Thanksgiving weekend. Generally we rent a house or condo in Los Sueños Resort and Marina. We’ve booked vacation rentals in other places around Costa Rica before but it is never quite the same as when we book with HRG Vacations and stay in Los Sueños.

Perhaps one of the reasons we love Los Sueños Resort so much is that it is so easily accessible from San Jose. Since two of my family members fly in from the States, that quick hour and fifteen minute drive from the Juan Santamaria International Airport to Los Sueños is greatly appreciated.

The bigger reason, though, is that we get so much with our vacation rental from HRG Vacations. Since we are such a big family, with my partner and I, my four grown kids, their partners, my new grandson, my sister, her husband and their daughter, and a few of our “chosen family” members who always join us to celebrate thanksgiving, we always rent a vacation villa with at least 6 bedrooms and have, on occasion, rented a condo too with a few staying there and all joining for dinner up at the villa.

Staying in a vacation villa at Los Sueños is the absolute perfect solution for these family vacation gatherings of ours because we get all the creature comforts of an amazing luxury home, a private pool, amazing views and nature all around,  a phenomenal kitchen for thanksgiving dinner preparation, the services of housekeeping and all the amenities of Los Sueños Resort and Marina, which include an 18 hole championship golf course, a world class spa, several restaurants and bars, nightlife nearby in Jaco Beach, killer surf for the boys in Playa Hermosa, and the marina for a family day of sport fishing (which we always take advantage of!)..

In addition to all the awesome activities and comforts of our vacation rentals in Los Sueños, and the resort itself, we are always relieved that we have the convenience of Automercado, one of Costa Rica’s biggest and best grocery stores, and Jimmy T’s Gourmet Deli, in the marina shops nearby, because no matter how well we plan, we always manage to forget something to complete our Thanksgiving dinner; thankfully someone can just hop in our golf cart and run out to get it.
